The Seven Deadly Sins – Season 1 Review

Hey everyone!

Welcome to the first installment of Anime April for 2020! To start off I will be reviewing Seven Deadly Sins. I started watching this early this year and fell in love with it. The characters are hilarious and the story keeps you entertained. I’m limiting this review to one season even though they have three. If you haven’t seen it yet hopefully I can convince you.

The season starts with a young bar keep setting up shop and a knight in giant armor wanders into the tavern. Turns out the knight is actually Princess Elizabeth of Britannia in disguise. She’s searching for a group of knights called the Seven Deadly Sins. She needs their help to help save the kingdom from people looking to overthrow it. At the end of the first episode we find out that the bar keep is Meliodas, the captain of the Seven Deadly Sins. The rest of the season is about Meliodas and Princess Elizabeth finding the rest of the team. The next sin they encounter is Diane, a female giant. We also meet Ban, an immortal man with power almost as strong as Meliodas. Later on they find Gowther, who relies mostly on his magical ability rather than physical strength. King aka Harlequin is a fairy with some of the coolest magical powers on the team. Merlin is the most magically knowledgeable sin because she’s a sorceress who studies different spells and potions.

While searching for the other Sins, the Holy Knights in charge of protecting the kingdom are hunting them. They believe the Sins tried to overthrow the kingdom years ago and are looking to do it again. In actuality, it’s people from within the Holy Knights organization. I don’t want to spoil it for people who haven’t seen it. There are so many twists in the plot for the season. It’s what held my interest as well as the individual character and how they interact with each other.

I love this anime because of the Sins individual personalities and how they just want to do the right thing despite what people think about them. In each little town they visit throughout the season, people fear and hate them. They stick around to help anyway. They still follow the mission of the Holy Knights they used to be because they know no one else will, especially with lies about them still being held as fact. Also, the magical abilities of all the Knights in the show is amazing to watch. Every fight is insane when you see exactly how strong everyone is, especially the Sins. In the first season it seemed like Meliodas and Ban were two of the most powerful. The more you watch though the more you see that each Sin is more than capable of holding their own. Their senses of humor will keep you laughing through all three seasons. Meliodas takes few things seriously and Ban is constantly roasting people around him. Diane is constantly telling people about themselves. King is constantly on Ban’s head. Their banter is the best.

This anime has magic, demons, giants, fairies, and tons of action. There’s also a few love stories among the characters too. Season two has more twists and turns, as well as more of a background on each of the Sins we’ve met so far. IF you enjoy fantasy and supernatural types of anime then this one’s for you.
