#LyricsMatter: Episode 3 Jhene Aiko is a Hoe and She Likes it

Disclaimer: I love Jhene Aiko’s music very much. From what I can tell, she’s a great mother and a dope human being…. I just disagree with the message in this song.

Jhene Aiko and company said:

“These red roses damn near turn to ashes
If I keep it real, you won’t understand it
These dirty blogs got your mind damaged
I’ll walk a million miles to see you happy
I hope she don’t think, that I think
That she’s some kind of hoe
(Some kind of hoe)
‘Cause I don’t care
That just lets me know that
She knows what she wants, yeah
Baby, I won’t judge (no, no, no, no)
Freak, freak, freak, freak
Now I’m sure that (freak, freak, freak, freak)
She knows what she wants, yeah
I ain’t gonna hold you baby, I like what I see
That print in them sweat pants got me weak off in my knees
I been thinking ’bout you since we met at No I.D.’s
If you’re free tonight I think that you should come see me
(Ohh, ohh)
Don’t be scared of my aggression
(Ohh, ohh)
Just don’t get the wrong impression
I hope she don’t think, that I think
That she’s some kind of hoe
(Some kind of hoe)
I don’t care
That just lets me know that
She knows what she wants, yeah
Baby, I won’t judge (no, no, no, no)
Freak, freak, freak, freak
Now I’m sure that (freak, freak, freak, freak)
She knows what she wants, yeah (you like the way I wink at you?)
I can’t never have a hater bone inside my body (nope)
I just like it better when my girl do her Pilates (see?)
I wanna dress you up and have you fresher than a stylist
Think about any drama when your body traumatizing (think about it)
You so caught up in the hype
You could have easily been my wife
I see the way your friends look they already thinking I’m shiesty (they jealous)
They misunderstood me when I say I’m Jesus Christ
I just want you to worship me, I like what I like
I’ll feed you to the wolves if you don’t talk to me nice
They gon’ try to crucify me
They think we worship ‘luminati (gang)
I take my heart and I go hide it
After all I just hope he don’t think that I’m some kind of hoe, some kind of hoe
I don’t know, he just makes me feel like he knows what he wants, yeah
Baby, I won’t judge
(Freak, freak, freak, freak)
Now I’m sure that he knows what he wants, yeah
Yeah, I choose happiness over everything
Over anything and it’s everything
Yeah, happiness over everything
Over anything and it’s everything to me”

Umm… No. I do not support having sex with multiple people but that’s a me thing. I also do not support the happiness over everything mantra or way of life. That’s another me thing.

The reason I don’t support the happiness over everything culture is because I find it selfish and I don’t believe it actually promotes self-care. It promotes self satisfaction. It promotes satisfying your flesh in the heat of the moment.

Future spit, and I quote, “They misunderstood me when I say I’m Jesus Christ
I just want you to worship me, I like what I like
I’ll feed you to the wolves if you don’t talk to me nice” BRUH! What in the toxic AF is happening? And this is on her ALBUM? She’s okay with that lyric? Hmm.

No matter how you define it, sex with no standards and individual happiness above all else is irresponsible, selfish and greedy. Self-Love and Self-Care is holding yourself accountable. It’s seeking and living your purpose, understanding that it is unnatural to live for only you. Rivers do not exist to quench a river’s thirst. The sun does not heat itself. Trees do not need the shade they provide. Likewise, we are more than our nerve-endings. I mean we are more than what we desire from moment to moment.

My unsolicited advice is to NEVER date a man who requires worship and threatens to hurt you if you don’t speak the way he wants you to and NEVER call someone you just met over to your place for sex because you DO NOT know them. Sex is more than a connection of bodies. We love to post about how we protect our energy. Sex with strangers is reckless, even with a condom, your spirit is not safe….

I’m not above correction so if I misinterpreted the lyrics, please give me your take on what was said. However, if they said what I think they said, “H.O.E.” is a song I will only hear once. My soul just doesn’t agree.

I feel that this song is a bit different from “Say So” by Doja Cat in message because Doja seems to have given her desire some thought. She seems to know the person’s history and he seems to be interested in her as a person. I’m not really down with fornication at the moment but “H.O.E.” sounds like ‘we’re all hoes but don’t treat me like one. Give me what I want right now and if I don’t want it later, no hard feelings.” Pineapples…

I am NOT perfect by any stretch of the imagination but sex has always been a serious matter to me. I would caution all involved to tread lightly.

But that’s just the opinion of a Music Head who loves her truth and is all about the lyrics.
